Why Delicate Surfaces Struggle in a Humid Lake City
The water that shaped this town still keeps its exteriors damp. Air moving off Lake Apopka — the fourth-largest lake in Florida, right on Winter Garden's northern edge — carries moisture across the area year-round, and that's all Gloeocapsa magma needs: the airborne algae behind the black streaks on local roofs. It feeds on the limestone filler inside shingles. The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association warns that high-pressure washing is likely to damage an asphalt roof, so we clean roofs with low pressure and a professional cleaning solution instead.
