Roof CleaningSt. Cloud, FL
Those black streaks on your roof are not dirt, and they are not permanent. They are Gloeocapsa magma, an airborne algae that spreads easily in St. Cloud's humid climate. We remove it with a low-pressure soft wash that treats the algae itself, not just the visible staining, and we use the same approach on shingle, tile, and metal roofs. No high pressure touches the roof.
Why Soft Wash Your Roof in a Lake Town
Treats the Algae Behind the Streaks
The black streaks are Gloeocapsa magma, an algae. We treat the algae itself, so it is slower to come back than after a surface rinse.
Treats Moss, Not Just Streaks
Black algae streaks are mostly a cosmetic problem. Moss is different: it holds moisture against the roof, and on shingles heavy moss can lift the edges. The same treatment works on moss as well as algae.
Consistent With Manufacturer Guidance
High pressure can strip the granules off shingles, and some roofing manufacturers warn against power washing. Damage from improper high-pressure cleaning may not be covered under certain warranties. We clean with a low-pressure soft wash instead.
Documented for HOA Review
A streaked roof can draw a compliance letter in the newer communities out east. We leave it clean and document the finished work.

Why St. Cloud Homeowners Trust Us With Their Roof
St. Cloud sits between Lake Tohopekaliga and the wetlands east of town, and that moisture keeps roofs damp well into the dry season. Shaded sections downtown, where heavy oak canopy limits direct sun, are usually the first to show dark streaks.
A plain rinse only removes the surface growth and does not fully treat it, so it comes back a lot sooner than it should. We soft wash instead. Our low-pressure, soft wash treatment kills the algae itself, not just the surface stain. That makes it much harder for the streaks to come back, and it keeps the roof cleaner for much longer. Our roof-cleaning process also treats mold, moss, and lichen. The cleaning solution continues working for several days after application, breaking down the remaining organic growth so the roof gradually becomes cleaner and brighter even after the service is complete.
We clean roofs throughout St. Cloud, including the downtown historic district, the Narcoossee corridor, Canoe Creek, Hanover Lakes, Twin Lakes, Sunbridge, and out toward Harmony. You get an experienced, owner-operated crew based in neighboring Kissimmee rather than a franchise. We use a low-pressure soft wash on every roof, never damaging high pressure.
What a Pressure Washer Does to a Roof:
- Strips the protective granules off your shingles
- Cracks and dislodges tile
- Forces water up under the shingles, where it rots the deck
- High pressure can damage shingles and may affect manufacturer warranty coverage
- Only rinses the surface, so the growth survives and the streaks return
- Puts a worker on a wet, slick roof — one of the most dangerous places to stand
Algae usually shows up on more than the roof. While we are on site we can add gutter cleaning in St. Cloud in the same trip, and we clean the walls with our soft washing in St. Cloud. Hard surfaces like the driveway are a different job, handled with pressure washing in St. Cloud. See every city we cover on our service areas page.
Property Assessment & Firm Quote
In most cases, we can price your roof remotely without scheduling an onsite estimate. We use aerial measurements to review the roof’s size and pitch, and ask about the roofing material and how heavy the streaking is, then provide a firm quote — usually within 1–3 business hours.
If we can’t accurately assess the property remotely, we’ll arrange an onsite visit. Once your quote is approved, your price won’t change unless the scope of work changes.
Schedule Your Service
Choose a service date that works for you. We confirm the appointment in advance and send you a text when our crew is on the way.
Same-week appointments may be available depending on the schedule.
Protect the Landscaping
Before applying the roof-cleaning solution, we thoroughly pre-wet the plants, shrubs, grass, and surrounding areas. We rinse the landscaping again afterward to reduce its exposure to overspray and runoff.
Apply the Soft-Wash Treatment
Using a professional soft-wash system, we apply the cleaning solution at low pressure across the roof. We adjust the application based on the roofing material and give additional attention to shaded and slow-drying areas where organic growth is often heavier.
The treatment targets algae, mold, moss, and lichen without using high-pressure washing.
Allow the Treatment to Keep Working
We apply additional treatments where needed, especially on heavily stained or shaded sections, until the entire roof has been thoroughly covered.
We typically leave the final application in place so it can continue breaking down any remaining organic growth. As the buildup loosens, normal rainfall gradually carries it away, and the roof may continue brightening over the following days.
Final Inspection and Photos
Once the final treatment has been applied and we have confirmed that every affected area has been thoroughly covered, we inspect the property and clean up the work area. We also provide before-and-after photos, which are useful especially for homeowners or property managers who are not at the property during the service.
Every roof cleaning is backed by our 1-year roof-wash warranty and satisfaction guarantee. If qualifying organic regrowth returns within 12 months, we will return and retreat the affected areas according to the warranty terms.

Soft Washing vs. Pressure Washing a Roof
The biggest misconception in roof cleaning is that a pressure washer is the right tool for the job. We never pressure wash a roof. Here is what each method actually does once the water hits your shingles.
Soft Washing
Low pressure plus a professional cleaning solution that kills the growth, not just the surface. It is the only method we put on a roof.
- Kills algae, mold, moss & lichen, not just the surface
- Avoids the high pressure that can strip the protective granules off your shingles
- Suited to tile, metal, flat and low-slope roofs too
- Low-pressure method consistent with manufacturer guidance
- Results last far longer than a surface rinse
Why Not a Pressure Washer?
On a driveway it is the right tool. On a roof, here's what high pressure can do:
- Blasts the protective granules off shingles, cutting years off the roof
- Cracks and dislodges tile
- Forces water up under the roofing, where it rots the deck
- High pressure can damage shingles and may affect manufacturer warranty coverage
- Only rinses the surface, so the growth survives and regrows
- Puts a worker on a wet, slick roof, one of the most dangerous places to stand
What a Neglected Roof Actually Costs You
A roof soft wash costs a small fraction of what the roof is worth. Here is what waiting, or letting a pressure washer near it, tends to cost instead.
Roof Replacement
The streaks alone are mostly cosmetic. The risk in waiting is the moss, lichen, and wet debris that can build up over time: they trap moisture on the roof, and heavy moss can lift shingle edges. Left for years, that can turn into repair work.
Pressure-Wash Damage
One pass with a pressure washer can strip granules or crack tile across a whole slope, turning a cleaning into a repair and potentially affecting manufacturer warranty coverage.
Heat Absorption
Dark growth on a reflective roof can make the surface reflect less sunlight and absorb more heat. If your roof was built to reflect sunlight, that is one more reason not to leave the growth in place.
Every Roof in St. Cloud We Soft Wash
We use one low-pressure method on every common roofing material in St. Cloud. We match the solution and its strength to whatever type of roof you have.
Shingle Roofs
The most common roof in town, on the historic grid and the newer subdivisions alike, and the one that stains fastest. We clear the black streaks at low pressure, because high pressure can strip the protective granules off the shingles.
Tile Roofs
Common on the newer builds out along Narcoossee and in Hanover Lakes. Tile can crack under high pressure, so we soft wash it instead and keep heavy foot traffic off it.
Metal Roofs
Standing-seam and panel roofs come back bright with a soft wash that is easy on the finish and the coating underneath.
Flat & Low-Slope
Flat sections drain slowly and hold water, and standing water in this humidity grows algae quickly. We treat them with the same low-pressure approach.
Moss & Lichen Removal
Moss and lichen build up on shaded, north-facing slopes, especially under the oak canopy downtown. The soft wash treats both at low pressure. As the growth loosens, normal rainfall gradually carries it away, and those slopes may keep improving over the following weeks.
Black Streak Removal
The dark streaks are Gloeocapsa magma algae. We treat the algae itself rather than rinsing the stain off the surface, so the results last much longer.

Why Roofs Streak So Fast in a Lake Town
St. Cloud's climate is humid most of the year, and the lakes and wetlands on either side of town keep it that way. That moisture is all Gloeocapsa magma needs. It is the airborne algae behind the black streaks on roofs across town, and it grows on the limestone filler inside shingles. That is why roofs here often stain faster than roofs in drier climates. A plain rinse does not remove it, and left untreated it spreads across the slope. The streaks themselves are mostly cosmetic. Moss and lichen, which build up on damp, shaded slopes, are a bigger concern: they hold moisture against the roof and can lead to more serious maintenance problems.
The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association advises against using a power washer on an asphalt roof, because high pressure is likely to damage it. We soft wash instead. A professional roof-cleaning solution, applied at low pressure, treats the algae, mold, moss, and lichen. We typically do not rinse the roof afterward. We typically leave the final application in place, and normal rain over the following days gradually carries the loosened growth away.
Before we start, we pre-wet the landscaping around the house, and we rinse it again afterward. A soft wash also uses far less water than a pressure washer.
Roof-cleaning needs vary across St. Cloud. The historic core needs restraint, with older shingle and the occasional tile roof shaded under heavy oak canopy where the algae never dries out. The Narcoossee corridor, Hanover Lakes, Twin Lakes, and Sunbridge need consistency instead, with young tile and shingle kept clean on an association's schedule. We regularly serve both.
